Wrongful Death

Wrongful death may be caused by the careless, reckless, negligent, act or willful misconduct of another person or entity. If the death of a relative was caused by the negligence of a third-party, the surviving family members may have the right to recover compensation for wrongful death. Those who have the right to recover include wives, husbands, children, parents, sisters, brothers, and financial dependants.

At Hancock Law, P.A., our wrongful death attorneys handle cases resulting from drowning, train accidents, trucking accidents, automobile accidents, pedestrian accidents, workplace accidents, construction accidents, recreational accidents, medical negligence, and many intentional acts.

The amount of compensation in a wrongful death case depends, in part, upon the income the deceased person was earning at the time of death and the amount he or she would have earned during his or her lifetime, and whether the surviving family members were dependent upon this income for support. The amount of compensation may also depend upon non-economic losses such as the conscious pain and suffering of the deceased person. Other non-financial losses that may be considered in determining the amount of compensation that would be fair and reasonable in a wrongful death case include the loss of parental guidance, loss of services, loss of supervision, loss of companionship, love, care and comfort.

At Hancock Law, P.A., we understand very well the tremendous stress and anxiety a wrongful death suit can trigger in the loved ones pursuing this claim behalf of the deceased.
